Subsequently, the Cochin Government constructed an annex for staff apartments and offices near to the main palace. This palace became the Kerala House, the official state bhavan in Kochi after the city gained its independence and joined the Indian Union.
Renovated and reopened in August 2023, the Travancore House is another building under Kerala House’s management. It is adjacent to Kerala House and was once the Maharaja of Travancore’s house.
