Despite the challenging week, there was a lengthy weekend. My friend and I agreed that we both needed a vacation. So, when we needed to get away, we did what everyone did. We purchased our Goa tickets and embarked on a tropical vacation. It’s not surprising that new hotels and villas appear every month in the sunny state given the increase of tourists it receives each year. However, choosing the ideal place to stay can truly make or break your trip. We were searching for a quiet area where we could escape the noise of the crowd without sacrificing our proximity to North Goa’s popular attractions. At Amger, we discovered precisely what we were searching for—a sumptuous 4-bedroom villa that offers

We drove from the MOPA airport for forty-five minutes and arrived at our destination. As soon as you stepped inside Amger, you felt relieved, like all of the world’s troubles had been taken off of you. Perched on a half-acre plot of ground with a view of verdant paddy fields, the opulent mansion stands proudly. However, the cosy ambiance and artistic interiors are what really make it appealing. Amger, which in Konkani means “our home,” is truly a home away from home. I reveled in the villa’s coziness, opulence, and lavish amenities for two nights.

 The Story of It

Arun and Alok Lalwani, the villa’s creators and designers, bought it in 2019 with the goal of turning it into a family retreat that would resemble a second home. “We considered everyone when designing the space, even our parents. Our intention was to provide a cozy and delightful area where we could all spend quality time together, says Arun. “People were astonished by the villa’s stunning appearance when the project was ultimately completed, a year after it was started. They insisted that keeping it empty most of the time would be a waste. That made us stop and consider whether or not other people may also find the location enjoyable. Thus, we made the decision to make it a

To give the 130-year-old Portuguese mansion a second lease of life, they enlisted the help of “The Workshop” architects Supriya Gandhi and restoration expert Nachinolkar Ketak. The owners sought for this area to have both an air of modernism and an air of old world charm. For big parties and families seeking a quiet getaway from the bustle, the villa is perfect.

What’s Included?

A combination of boho aesthetics and Portuguese elegance serves as the inspiration for the design and decor. Arun and Alok’s anger is a manifestation of their personalities. The artwork and decor of each room are a reflection of their hobbies and travels. “A lot of the pieces were acquired during our travels, both domestically in Portugal and overseas, especially in India, where we discovered interesting textiles and antiquities that give the house personality. The intention was to create a room that has a narrative behind each object you see, feeling both lived in and carefully chosen. Each member of the family played a part in creating a space that reflected our passions and common experiences. Every room features original artwork by global artists, including some that are really dear to our hearts, according to Arun.

Huge arched windows and doors, Juliet balconies, a large verandah and balcao, and the original Mangalore tile-and-wood roof are all characteristics of the home. The owners’ own statement lights are intended to give your experience a “larger-than-life” quality. The interior has an irreplaceably earthy feel thanks to the tumbled stone floors. However, the living room really is the best. Amger is reminiscent of an art collector’s home with its wicker wall art, crochet couches, and raffia decor. The living area also contains treasures from the owners’ travels.

Past the living room is the dining area, which has a large wooden table and walls lined with shelves displaying interesting pottery pieces and artifacts inspired by animals. The images depicting the past appearance of the villa connect the present with the past.

Every one of the four bedrooms has a balcony. I appreciated how much consideration was put into each room. For ease and comfort, the children’s and elderly citizens’ rooms are located on the ground floor. Actually, Arun’s parents own the larger room on the ground level. It opens to a large sit-out with trees and potted plants all around, just the kind of place my granny would love. Seniors’ requirements are also taken into consideration in the bathroom, where a bench has been added next to the shower to reduce the amount of time they must stand. Arun and Alok have two rooms upstairs that are like a real-life Pinterest board; I got a lot of ideas for how to decorate my own room from them.

The Vibrant Exteriors

The living room’s adjacent verandah provides a view of Amger’s garden, which makes a perfect picnic area, as well as the swimming pool and paddy fields. Here, we relaxed on the sofa cushions with a steaming hot beverage and took in the breathtaking scenery. But the pool seemed very appealing in the brilliant weather. The next thing you know, we’re relaxing poolside with a cold beer and having a swim. You and your guests can enjoy a poolside party with summer cocktails at the bar beside the pool.

You can get solace in the environmentally friendly Machan in the garden, which is constructed from sawmill waste wood, if you’re looking for alternative methods to obtain emotional solace. The Machan allows you to fully immerse yourself in nature while also providing a closer look at the expansive paddy fields.

The Culinary Programme

Amger has a fully functional kitchen as well as the added benefit of a chef-on-call who ensures that you can savor a typical Goan dinner in the comfort of your own villa. Everything was delicious, including the fried fish, poee with prawn curry, and potatoes with honey and chilli. Although there isn’t any alcohol at the villa, you may buy the booze of your choosing from a store that is only two minutes from the house. The staff here will set you up with a mixologist to create some unusual concoctions or you can test your bartending prowess with your friends and family.

What’s addition?

In addition to hiring bartenders on demand, the property offers alternatives for live music, barbecues, and catering.

Are you looking for something to do outside? The property hosts a floating fenny experience in the area that includes dining and tasting while submerged in a small lake. Because of Amger’s location, you can walk around and take in the village. There are plenty of eateries and shops in the area, and the Assagao beach is also not too far away. If you want some Instagram-worthy photos, you may also go to the well-known Parra Road.

For your well-being, consider getting a soothing massage or revitalizing yourself with a sound healing session from a Saabut health practitioner. On our last day, we engaged in that activity, which was ideal for reviving our senses and recharging our batteries in preparation for returning to the daily grind.
